Frenchify Your Friday – Number 60

Bastille Day

Happy Bastille Day Everyone.

July the 14th sees the French celebrating their national day.

Some French will join the crowds that descend on Paris to see the parades and the fly overs, which deliver jet streams in shades of blue, white and red. Others will use the holiday to escape with family and friends.

French culture is steeped in history. I think it is these clear links to the past that see them taking their ‘Fête nationale’ way more seriously than we Australians take our national day, which is imaginatively titled Australia Day.

But I digress. I’m supposed to be suggesting a way to Frenchify this coming Friday.

And this week’s idea is so simple, we’ll all be able to bring a little bit of France into our day.

After all the celebrations in France on July 14, it’s safe to say that there will be a fair bit of relaxation occurring on the 15th, despite the fact that it’s not officially a holiday. Everyone will be having a rest, which is what I’m suggesting we all do too.

You might be lucky enough to be able to take a whole day off, or you might (like me) have to be content with carving out half an hour for yourself. But whatever time you happen to have available, make sure you spend it with your feet up!

All the best for a fabulous Friday.

Until next time – au revoir.

PS. If you happen to be in Melbourne this weekend, don’t miss the Bastille Day French Festival at the State Library. You can get all of the details right here.
