We knew when we decided to visit Tain-l’Hermitage and Tournon-sur-Rhône that we had way too much to see to cover it all in just one day. So we decided to book a hotel for the night and give ourselves another day in the area – and what a great decision that was. It is really hard for me to be absolutely certain, but this hotel goes very close to being my favourite accommodation on our last trip.
I found Hôtel Les 2 Côteaux on the internet. When I first researched the hotel, it was a 2 star establishment, but given the quality of the hotel, we weren’t surprised to find that, by the time we stayed, it had been awarded a third star. If you’ve been following the accommodation posts, you’ve probably already worked out that we jump around a bit on our accommodation standards, as I tend to pay more attention to reviews rather than stars or ratings.
This family operated hotel is situated in the most amazing location, right on the bank of the Rhône River, and right at the end of the footbridge that links Tain-l’Hermitage with Tournon-sur-Rhône. The views of the river are spectacular, as are the views of the vineyards on the hill behind Château-Musée de Tournon-sur-Rhône.
And I would argue that these views are best taken in from the terrace, while enjoying an aperitif, which is how we did it.
Our room was large and clean, and simply decorated. The bathroom was recently renovated, which is always a plus in hotels. Thanks to internet reviews, when I emailed the hotel to book, I requested a room with view of the river…and we were lucky enough to be given a room with a balcony chairs and tables from which to enjoy the view.
The hotel was great value, with a delicious breakfast available at a small additional cost. Of course, the breakfast room included views of the river.
We would head back to Tain-l’Hermitage in a heartbeat – for the riverside towns, the chocolate, the food, the wine and this hotel.
Until next time – au revoir.
