Finding French Inspiration – In July

Paris in July

I always look forward to July. It is a fun month for the Distant Francophile team, with many of our friends and family celebrating their birthdays this month. And on top of all the birthdays, there is Bastille Day to consider – always a good excuse for an evening with a French flavour. It’s just a shame the weather here is mostly horrendous during July….but I guess you can’t have everything.

If you are lucky enough to be headed to Paris during July, there is a strong chance you’ll get far better weather than we will experience here! Susan from une femme d’un certain âge has just arrived in London and she’ll soon be in Paris. A super stylish blogger, Susan has shared her summer packing tips here. They are definitely worth a look if you are travelling this month.

More On Paris

If you are spending time in Paris in July you’ll be keen to know what’s going on. This month, I’ve looked once more to Judy and the team at My French Life™  for all the best advice. If I was in Paris during the European summer I’d certainly be checking out the Paris quartier d’été festival.

As an aside, while you are on the My French Life™  website make sure you check out my review of French Main Meals Made Easy: Week 1. It’s an excellent little collection of authentic French recipes and I’m more than happy to recommend the Boeuf aux Carrottes.

While you are in Paris during the warmer months, you may be more than tempted to cycle around the beautiful city streets on a Vélib’ – a self-service bike which you can pick up just about anywhere in Paris at all hours of the day and night. If this sounds like you, you’ll be keen to read Secrets of Paris informative tips on using Paris’ Vélib’ bikes.

On Travelling

Over the years, I’ve picked up so many travel tips from fellow bloggers. Despite the fact that we’d probably be considered experienced travellers by now, I never fail to read the various pieces of advice I come across. I recently found a piece entitled 50 Random But Essential Europe Travel Tips. These hints, shared by Marie-Eve of To Europe & Beyond, resonated so strongly with me, I had no choice but to share them with all of you.

On French Culture

If you are regular reader of Distant Francophile, you will know that while I adore all things French, I also approach the idea of the ‘French Superwoman’ with a healthy degree of scepticism. With that information in mind, you’ll understand why I was keen to share this somewhat older but relatively balanced piece from the Stylist.

On French Perfume

It is extremely safe to say that I am still loving everything that French style icon Inès de La Fressange touches. Including this French girl’s guide to perfume. Oh, and stay tuned, that Inès book review I mentioned last month will be published this week.

Wishing you a wonderful month, full of French fun.

And until next time – au revoir.
